Blenheim Park Winter 2009

Although I didn't manage to catch Blenheim in the snow, which thawed too quickly for me; I did visit on a day for which the weather forecast was 'Sunny Periods', in fact the weather map looked pretty discouraging, but I went nonetheless, and found after I'd been in the park for about a minute that there was a dramatic sky combined with a low Sun and spectacularly changing light. I took a lot of photos of the Queen Pool, then, as I was crossing the bridge, another visitor said to me 'you won't get many photos today'. Well, I took 415! The light was changing very rapidly, in fact I abandoned using manual settings and put the camera on automatic; I don't usually do this but the clouds scudding across the sky meant that the light was changing significantly in the interval between setting the camera and pressing the shutter!
One slight drawback of the conditions was that sometimes in particularly interesting lighting I wasn't really in the very best of positions, also occasionally my own shadow intruded. In some cases I thought the light so distinctive that it outweighed the fact that the composition wasn't as good as I would have liked.
